DanceChance Turns 30! |
This June, PNB's DanceChance program celebrated 30 years! PNB marked this milestone with a Celebration Day. Founding PNB Artistic Director Francia Russell shared her vision to provide access to ballet training for Seattle Public School students, to increase diversity in the dance world, and to include more students of all backgrounds at PNB School. 180 guests attended, including DanceChance alumni spanning from 1998 to those currently enrolled at PNB School, as well as SPS teachers and administrators. |

10,000 Dreams Festival |
PNB was honored to present Edwaard Liang's The Veil Between Worlds at The Kennedy Center's 10,000 Dreams: A Celebration of Asian Choreography Festival this summer! Curated by the Kennedy Center and Phil Chan, 10,000 Dreams: A Celebration of Asian Choreography shines the spotlight on Asian and Asian American choreographers. 10,000 is the “biggest” number in many Asian languages—suggesting a number so large it is almost uncountable. Learn more about the festival here. |

The Sleeping Beauty Insights |
Last month, Nicole Frederiksen led a thoughtful discussion with The Sleeping Beauty scenic designer Preston Singletary and Peter Boal. Preston is a renowned glass artist frequently inspired by his Tlingit ancestry. Nicole, also a member of the Tlingit tribe, is returning to PNB to assist with community engagement for The Sleeping Beauty. This insighful discussion about The Sleeping Beauty and Preston's artistic influences provides helpful context for the world premiere production. This August, Ann Marie Caldwell, PNB Community Education's Programs Manager, will co-lead a workshop with TAT Lab faculty member Carina A. del Rosario at The Art of Belonging, a conference presented by the OSPI Migrant and Arts Education programs. The workshop gives educators tools to teach arts integration, specifically the social studies topic of migration integrated with dance and visual art! The workshop showcases how PNB Community Education Programs and the TAT Lab curriculum are culturally responsive and foster a sense of belonging through the arts. Pride-themed TBR |
In celebrating Pride Month, the PNB community shared some of their favorite LGBTQ+ related media. From books about "lesbian necromancers in space" to ones that "packed a surprisingly emotional wallop in its exploration of how our families define us," PNB staff have some great recommendations for you.
